5 Things I learned about software development filming reality TV
I’m back from 5 days of filming Season 20 of The Blox - a reality TV show competition for entrepreneurs.
I can’t tell you if I won anything - my season won’t air for about 6 months yet - but I CAN share that you will definitely see me on the show. You’ll have to watch to find out more. 😉
Along the way, I met a TON of amazing peers & mentors who got me totally psyched up to CRUSH my goals in 2025.
It’s incredible how being around a community of like-minded people all pursuing the same goal as you can jump-start your progress and lay the groundwork for achieving goals you barely thought were possible.
Interestingly, I found there was a lot of overlap between becoming a six-figure software developer and a successful entrepreneur.
Here are 5 lessons I learned:
1️⃣ Building momentum & consistency is key to reaching your goals. If your goal is to become a professional coder, then building the HABIT of showing up & studying coding every day is WAY more important than how much you accomplish on any given day.
2️⃣ All successful six figure software developers and entrepreneurs use the scientific method to engineer their success.
3️⃣ Your net WORTH is the sum of your netWORK. Whatever your dream, how you’re getting in front of people (potential clients or potential hiring managers) & how often is the difference between success & failure.
4️⃣ Becoming successful requires BOTH patient preparation (think marathon, not sprint) AND leaving imposter syndrome at the curb so you can OWN your moment.
To give you an example, there was one day I was more successful than any other… and the topic that day was in my wheelhouse. I had literally spent years preparing early in my career, and with that investment I was able to CRUSH the competition. Like, mic drop style.
(Fortunately, becoming a six figure software developer and OWNING your job interview doesn’t need to take quite so long. 😸)
5️⃣ The traits that lead to success are the same regardless of whether you’re becoming a six figure software developer OR a 7-figure business owner:
➡️ commitment to excellence,
➡️ clear communication & boundaries,
➡️ and just overall showing up as a professional, kind human.
